SPECIAL TASK 1

ST. MARK LION

In the decade after Generali’s foundation, there were political climate of riots and movements against old institutions, including the Austro-Hungaric Empire. Freedom-fighters assaulted several Generali buildings in Italy, destroying the symbol of the Company, the imperial two-headed eagle. The Board of Directors removed the adjective “Austro-Italiche” from the name of the Company and the Venetian Head Office made the decision to use the St. Mark lion as a symbol/logo for its Italian business operations. The first instance of the lion in official documents of the Company is on a mandate to the main agency in Parma, dated May 19, 1860. Only after that date the St. Mark symbol begins to appear regularly on documents, contracts and letters relating to Generali and issued on the Italian territory.

Challenge
Look for as many St. Mark lions as possible throughout the day and take a picture of the ones you find.
The more lions the more points!
